Power of making,
up your mind
When it comes to pursuing our dreams and embarking on new ventures, there is a profound truth that often goes unnoticed - aka the power of making up our minds. It's a simple yet incredibly impactful concept that can shape the trajectory of our lives.
Time and again, I have experienced how decisiveness and determination can open doors and pave the way for success, while a lack of conviction can lead to missed opportunities and unfulfilled potential.
In this article:
Impact of Mediocrity
Reflecting on my own experiences, I have noticed a stark contrast between the outcomes of things, where I have been gun ho and those where I have been lackluster.
When I have approached an idea or a business venture with mediocrity, without a clear vision or commitment, the results have often been disappointing.
It's as if the universe senses my wavering commitment and responds accordingly, closing doors and withholding the opportunities that could have propelled me forward.
For instance, there was a time when I had a half-hearted idea for a new venture. I lacked the enthusiasm and determination to fully commit to it.
As a result, I found myself facing numerous obstacles and setbacks. Potential partners and investors were hesitant to get involved, and the market seemed unresponsive to my efforts.
It was a frustrating experience that taught me the importance of wholeheartedly embracing an idea before expecting it to flourish.
Power of Decisiveness
On the other hand, there have been instances where I have made up my mind and approached new ventures with unwavering determination.
In these cases, I have witnessed a remarkable shift in the way things unfold. Doors that were once closed suddenly swing open, and opportunities seem to materialize out of thin air.
One such example was when I decided to pursue a career change. I had grown tired of my current profession and knew deep down that I needed a change.
With a clear goal in mind, I took the necessary steps to acquire new skills and network with professionals in the field I aspired to enter.
The moment I made up my mind and committed to this new path, doors began to open. I received unexpected job offers, connected with influential individuals, and found myself in the right place at the right time.
It was a testament to the power of decisiveness and the impact it can have on our lives.
Overcoming Hurdles
While making up our minds is a crucial first step, it is not always smooth sailing from there. Along the way, we are bound to encounter hurdles and challenges that test our resolve.
In such moments, it is essential to equip ourselves with the right tools to overcome these obstacles and stay on track towards our goals.
One tool that has been invaluable to me is the power of positive thinking. By maintaining a positive mindset, even in the face of adversity, I have been able to navigate through challenges with resilience and determination.
This mindset has allowed me to see setbacks as opportunities for growth and learning, rather than insurmountable barriers.
Normally there's a cost with a setback, either personally, financially or both. I put this mistake down to the cost of the lesson.
A bit like driving lessons, over 25 weeks will set you back a little over a thousand pounds. And then there's the cost of the test and if you were really unlucky like me, a road accident too.
These costly mistakes, were the price I had to pay to become a qualified driver. So instead of complaining to whoever would listen.
I just used the rationale that my total cost was well over two thousand pounds, instead of one thousand pounds. Over the lifetime of driving it's minimal and not worth stressing about. Even though at the time it was financially uncomfortable.
Another tool that has proven effective is always having a plan 'B'. Having assessed all options and thought what will I do in certain situations, allows me to plan ahead. In a worst case scenario if I have a plan I can execute then I minimise the chances of making poor decisions.
Goal Setting
The practice of goal setting is an enormous boost. In the good old days, I would set a goal after I had accomplished it. Yep, you've read that correctly. I would do the task and then set the goal. I had an inferiority complex which meant I couldn't fail.
Fast forward a few years and a few failed ventures, and the penny dropped. All those failures were lessons that taught me, what not to do and where to focus my energy.
Each failure was a lesson. Today I now set goals so large that if I fail, I am so far ahead of myself, it's a massive plus.
Breaking down larger goals into smaller, actionable steps has helped me make progress consistently and build momentum along the way.
Additionally, surrounding myself with a network of individuals who provide guidance and encouragement has been invaluable.
Their insights and experiences have helped me navigate challenges more effectively and provided a source of motivation and accountability.
Never Underestimate Yourself
The power of making up our minds cannot be underestimated. When we approach new ideas and ventures with decisiveness and determination, we open ourselves up to a world of possibilities.
Conversely, a lack of conviction and mediocrity can lead to missed opportunities and unfulfilled potential.
By sharing my own experiences and the lessons I have learned, I hope to inspire others to embrace the power of making up their minds.
It is a simple yet transformative concept that can shape the course of our lives. With the right tools and mindset, we can overcome anything life throws at us and achieve the success we desire.
