Creative Inspiration
It is commonly thought that creative people have an overflow of inspiration. Whilst that maybe the case when watching Netflix or Amazon Prime, that’s not the case in the real world. We have to work to create an environment that’s conducive to the task at hand.
You're not going to ask a builder to start demolition in a children's playground with kids running around. First you're going to evacuate the site, before sending in the diggers. The same applies here, before we get into our creative spirit, a little coaxing is necessary.
Find Your Spark
Finding your spark can be a challenge at times and there are days we have nothing, nada, zilch. Some days you are creative as a wet weekend in October.
Most of the time, distractions are the reason that you can’t find your spark and it feels like searching for a needle in a haystack. Noise pollution is a big one for me, I’ve noticed I can be disturbed by the slightest sound. So I invested in some noise cancelling headphones and this helps me to find some headspace.
Control Your Work Environment
When I’m working from home, I can control the environment more and simple breathing techniques can help set the scene. Creative potential can be inspired by your sense of smell and it sets the mood. Releasing soothing relaxing scent into a room, has the power to enlighten and invigorate those in its presence.
Scents and Me
Scent does a lot for me personally, I smell everything and I mean everything. For me aromatherapy is not just based on essential oils, it can make or break a setting. When we inhale a scent, it travels to the part of the brain that processes scent (our olfactory system), this evokes our emotions and memories (Limbic System) which is why scent triggers such strong emotions and memories in us!
Why We Remember Scents
So when you breathe in the scent of those essential oils, they go straight to the smell and feelings/memories parts of your brain. That's why smells can trigger such strong emotions and memories in us!
I have that when preparing certain meals that my Grandmother would make. The mere smell of the herbs and spices brings me back to her time preparing meals for the family. You may have something similar, the smell of the sea reminds you of days out to Brighton beach or the smell of mulled wine makes you think of Christmas.
What Scents Do For You
Scent helps to sooth our body and release tension that we carry around with us day after day. Citrus oils like bergamot, grapefruit, orange are uplifting, energising which stimulate joy, ease anxiety, and lift your mood. Jasmine fosters optimism, confidence, and mental clarity. These scents have a wide range of effects, from uplifting euphoria to soothing.
Scent Inspiration
The important thing is a scent can give you inspiration based on our memories and experience. There are so many scents out there it doesn’t even have to be an essential oil, it can be just the smell of just mown grass or the rain that gives the dust on the street a scent of freshness.
Creating an environment that feeds our creativity is a must in todays’ world. Clear the clutter from your mind and open yourself up to the world around you. Let your creative flow ooze from your being and be free to create.
Aromatherapy for You
Ultimately, the journey into aromatherapy is a deeply personal one, and there are no one-size-fits-all solutions. Whether you're an aspiring artist, writer, or entrepreneur, incorporating aromatherapy into your daily life can help you to find that spark of creativity and unleash your full potential. So why not take a deep breath and start your fragrant journey today? Your muse awaits.
